In order for a company to operate in areas that have not been contemplated by existing law, participating in rule-making while having a deep knowledge of conventional laws, regulations and self-regulatory rules becomes important. We assist clients in their discussions with relevant administrative authorities, self-regulatory organizations, and interest groups regarding legislative and regulatory proposals. In creating new rules, we draft policy proposals and undertake lobbying efforts only after researching an issue thoroughly.

Accomplishments

  • With regard to the legal business model “prepaid wage payment services,” we have obtained approval from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry that the business model is compliant with the regulations under the Procedure of Elimination of Grey Zones
  • For startup companies in the mobility areas, we have assisted many new business models utilizing the sandbox policies
  • With regard to crypto assets and virtual currency businesses, along with the Japan Blockchain Association, we have assisted in drafting appropriate regulations along with the relevant administrative agencies, including the Financial Service Agency
  • Assisted Fintech business in engaging with compliance matters in a strategic way to further their business
  • For biotech products where it is unclear whether regulations will apply, we have created legal opinions along regarding the applicability of such regulations and have been interacting with the appropriate government agency
  • Chika Minami (Japanese lawyer) has become the legal community manager of Public Meets Innovation
  • Masaya Uchino (US lawyer) has attended to the Legal Subcommittee of the UN Committee on Peaceful Uses of Outer Space
